Capital Prep Harlem Earns 5-Year Charter Renewal from SUNY
March 3, 2026 (New York, NY) — Capital Prep Harlem has been granted a five-year charter renewal by the SUNY Board of Trustees, reaffirming its commitment to delivering high-quality education to underserved scholars across New York City.
Since opening in 2016, Capital Prep Harlem has provided underserved youth with access to a rigorous, college-preparatory education rooted in academic excellence and social justice. The Capital Prep model is intentionally designed to support scholars through a proactive approach — combining high expectations, structured supports, and a learning environment that prepares students for success in college, career, and beyond.
“This five-year renewal is a powerful affirmation of the work happening every day inside our classrooms,” said Tarik Brooks, Board Chair of Capital Prep Schools NY. “Our scholars, families, and educators have built a school community grounded in excellence, accountability, and opportunity. We are proud of what we’ve accomplished and even more committed to the work ahead.”
Capital Prep Harlem's renewal follows Capital Prep Bronx’s five-year renewal in April 2025, reinforcing the strength and sustained impact of the Capital Prep Schools NY network. Capital Prep remains steadfast in preparing scholars to thrive in college, career, and beyond as informed, engaged citizens and leaders in their communities. That momentum continues this fall with the opening of Capital Prep New Rochelle, which will build upon the legacy of excellence established by the network’s New York schools.
